Facebook Dating Is a Hot Mess! Five Things You Need to Do Before Meeting Someone

Facebook Dating Is a Hot Mess! Five Things You Need to Do Before Meeting Someone

**By VibeX | Dating, Relationships & Real Talk**

Facebook Dating: What in the World Is Going On?

Let me tell you something! Facebook Dating is a HOT MESS, and I am trying to figure out whether people are looking for love, friendship, a relationship, or just somebody to come over for 30 minutes!

Because the conversations? TERRIBLE!

You say, "Hello, how are you doing?"

They say, "Good."

You ask, "What are you looking for on here?"

They say, "Fun."

FUN? What kind of fun? Bowling? Dinner? A movie? A trip to Walmart? Please explain because I am not a mind reader!

Then you have the people who want to meet up after exchanging three messages.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Nothing much."

"Can I come over?"

EXCUSE ME?

We haven't even had a decent conversation, and you're already trying to find out where I live!

Not so fast!

I understand that everybody isn't looking for marriage. Some people want friendship, casual dating, a serious relationship, or a hookup. That's their business.

But whatever you're looking for, **you still need to use common sense.**

Here are five things I believe everybody should do before meeting someone from Facebook Dating or any other dating app.

## 1. Have an Actual Conversation First!

Can we please bring back the art of conversation?

I am tired of asking five questions and getting five one-word answers.

"Where are you from?"

"Chicago."

"What do you enjoy doing?"

"Stuff."

"What are you looking for?"

"Whatever."

WHATEVER?

Sir, are we having a conversation or playing a guessing game on a game show?

Dating should involve communication. I want to know something about the person I'm talking to.

What do you enjoy doing? What makes you laugh? What are your interests? What are you looking for in another person?

And please ask me something about myself!

I should not feel like I'm conducting a job interview while you sit there giving me absolutely nothing.

**My advice:** Before meeting anybody, have a real conversation. If somebody cannot communicate through messages, pay attention to that.

## 2. Have a Video Call Before Meeting!

Now, this one is important.

Everybody has pictures on Facebook Dating, but are those pictures current?

Some people are using photographs from 2012, and it's almost 2027!

You looked wonderful back then, but what do you look like TODAY?

And let's talk about those profiles with one blurry picture, sunglasses, and absolutely no information.

Who am I supposed to be meeting? A mystery contestant?

Before meeting someone, suggest a short video call.

It doesn't have to be an hour-long production. Five or ten minutes can help you see whether the person resembles their pictures and whether you enjoy talking to them.

A video call isn't proof that someone is safe, but it can help you spot inconsistencies.

And if somebody keeps making excuses about why they cannot video chat, slow down.

**My advice:** Verify who you're talking to as much as reasonably possible. Don't ignore suspicious behavior because somebody has a nice smile.

## 3. Stop Inviting Strangers to Your House!

This one right here deserves its own television special!

Why are people so comfortable inviting complete strangers into their homes?

You have exchanged four messages, and now somebody wants your address.

"Can I come chill?"

CHILL WHERE?

You don't know me, and I don't know you!

My home is not a waiting room for Facebook Dating!

Listen, I understand that adults make their own decisions about hookups and casual encounters. I'm not here to judge anybody.

But meeting someone for the first time at a private residence carries risks.

You don't know their temperament, intentions, or how they will behave if something doesn't go their way.

**My advice:** Arrange your first meeting in a public location, preferably during the day. A coffee shop, casual restaurant, or another busy place is a much better starting point.

Arrange your own transportation so you can leave whenever you want.

And please, don't give somebody your home address just because they sent you a heart emoji!

## 4. Find Out What They Really Want!

Everybody on Facebook Dating is not looking for the same thing.

Some want marriage.

Some want companionship.

Some want casual dating.

And some want to skip the introduction, skip dinner, skip the conversation, and get straight to the bedroom!

Well, at least be honest about it!

There is nothing wrong with adults having different dating goals. The problem comes when people pretend they want one thing while pursuing something completely different.

If you want a relationship, say that.

If you only want something casual, be upfront.

And if you're not sure what you want, that's fine too. Just don't mislead somebody else.

Ask direct questions:

"What are you looking for?"

"Are you interested in dating or just meeting casually?"

"Are you currently involved with somebody?"

"What are your expectations if we meet?"

And don't just listen to the answers. Pay attention to whether their actions match their words.

**My advice:** Make sure you're both looking for compatible things before investing your time or agreeing to meet.

## 5. Protect Yourself and Trust Your Instincts!

This is the most important one.

Before meeting someone from Facebook Dating, tell a trusted friend or family member where you're going.

Share the person's profile, the meeting location, and when you expect to return.

Keep your phone charged, and make sure you have enough money to get home.

Don't send money to somebody you've never met. Don't share private financial information, passwords, or verification codes.

And if someone starts pressuring you to meet immediately, send intimate pictures, or do something you're uncomfortable with, you have every right to say NO.

You do not owe somebody access to your time, your body, or your home because you matched on a dating app.

Even if you agreed to meet, you can change your mind.

If you're considering a hookup, talk about boundaries, consent, and sexual health beforehand. There is nothing embarrassing about protecting yourself.

**My advice:** If something feels wrong, leave. You don't need to stay just to be polite.

## Bonus: The One-Word Answer People Are Driving Me Crazy!

Can we talk about these conversations one more time?

Because I need answers!

Me: "How was your weekend?"

Them: "Fine."

Me: "Did you do anything exciting?"

Them: "No."

Me: "What do you enjoy doing in your free time?"

Them: "Nothing."

NOTHING?

Do you sit in a chair staring at the wall all weekend?

Then, after giving me absolutely no conversation, they have the nerve to say:

"So when can we meet?"

MEET FOR WHAT?

We have not established one interesting thing about each other!

I'm beginning to think some people believe dating apps are like ordering food.

Scroll through the menu, select somebody, and expect delivery in 20 minutes!

Sorry, but I'm not available for express shipping!

## My Final Thoughts: Dating Shouldn't Feel Like a Full-Time Job!

Facebook Dating can be entertaining, frustrating, confusing, and downright exhausting.

One minute, you're having a promising conversation. The next minute, somebody disappears, sends a one-word response, or asks whether they can come over at midnight.

And don't even get me started on people who claim they want a serious relationship but can't maintain a conversation for more than two minutes!

I'm not saying everybody on Facebook Dating is terrible. There are genuinely good people looking for meaningful connections.

But you have to be patient, pay attention, and establish your standards.

At this stage of my life, I don't want to waste time playing guessing games.

I want communication.

I want honesty.

I want respect.

And most importantly, I want somebody who understands that getting to know another person takes more than saying "Hey" and asking for an address.

Whether you're looking for love, friendship, companionship, or something casual, **respect and safety should always come first.**

And to the people sending one-word answers?

PLEASE GIVE US A COMPLETE SENTENCE!

We're trying to date, not solve a crossword puzzle!

## Let's Talk! What's Your Facebook Dating Experience?

Have you experienced any of these situations?

- Somebody asking to hook up after only a few messages?
- People who only give one-word answers?
- Profiles with outdated or suspicious pictures?
- Someone disappearing in the middle of a good conversation?
- People who say they want a relationship but act like they only want a quick meetup?
