He Don’t Live in the Past? Baby, He Is the Past!”

He Don’t Live in the Past? Baby, He Is the Past!”

Let’s talk about my ex — the one who looked me dead in the face (okay, in a Facebook message) and said, “I don’t live in the past.” Sir, what do you mean? Because the past is where you left the hurt, the chaos, and my favorite hoodie.

Let me be clear: not living in the past doesn’t give you a free pass to avoid accountability. That’s not growth, that’s gaslighting with a side of amnesia. You don’t get to cause damage and then moonwalk away like it never happened. You hurt people. You hurt me. And you calling it "old news" doesn’t erase the headlines I had to survive.

See, exes love to rewrite history like they’re the victims in a Lifetime movie. Suddenly, they were the ones who cried, they were the ones ghosted, and they never promised anything serious — even though we shared toothbrushes, Netflix passwords, and trauma.

So here’s the advice, messy but real:
✨ If someone tells you they “don’t live in the past,” ask them why they keep showing up in your memories like unpaid rent.
✨ Healing ain’t about forgetting — it’s about learning not to let them re-injure you.
✨ And don’t waste your breath hoping for closure. Sometimes, the real closure is watching them live their “I’ve changed” fantasy while you quietly thrive.

To my ex: you don’t live in the past, but I do — long enough to remember who you really were. Now run along and tell your next victim I was “crazy.”

Because baby, I may have been the past…
…but I was the chapter you’ll never stop rereading. 📖💅
